The Stööki 'Self-Made' Spotlight Series shines a spotlight on independent creatives who are doing bits with their craft.

We are excited to share the sixth installment in our 2021 'Self-Made' Spotlight Series with the very talented artist and 'Patient Z' fashion label owner Zlata. We hung out for the day, learned more about her creative process and got a sneak peek of our bespoke collaboration piece!

 

We sat down with Zlata and gained an insight in her sources of inspiration, why she thinks being a self-made artist is important and what she would like her legacy to be. Check out the photoshoot and Q&A below… ⚡🔦👀

1. What’s your craft?

I’m an artist and founder of a fashion brand called Patient Z. 

 

2. What’s your story?

Originally born and raised in Russia, I moved to the UK at the age of 15. I have always been passionate about expressing myself through my sense of style and I’ve started customising my own clothes, eventually leading me to create my own brand, which focuses on customisation and upcyling. I use my craft to reconnect to my heritage by incorporating Russian references into my designs. I want to create clothing that tells a story, and not fashion for fashion’s sake. 


 

 

3) What’s important to you about being Self-Made?

Being Self-Made means I get to take control over my own processes and my work. It means I get to push myself to constantly evolve.

4) What’s your main source of inspiration?

Punk culture, my Russian heritage, anime and comics. I also find inspiration through cultural exploration, for instance, within the social issues of our generation, such as unhealthy consumerism.  

 

 

 

5) What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? & What advice would you pass forward?

Creatives are their own biggest critics, so believing in yourself can either make or break you. 

That inner critic will help you grow,  but you can’t allow it to hold you back from the opportunities that come your way.

6) Describe your personal style and influences?

I love combining things and mixing styles, and playing around with the rules of what “looks good” with what.

 

 

 

7) What's your favourite genre of music? Song you can't get out of your head right now...

Nu Metal. Much like in fashion, I like when the old genres mix together and create a new baby of their own. 

I have recently done a video to Korn - Freak on the Leash for my latest campaign, and that one is still stuck in my head. 

 

8) What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen or heard?

I make myself laugh constantly. 

 

9) How would you describe the Stööki Movement?

Collaboration. Community. Inclusivity.

10) What are your plans for 2021?

I have just released my first upcycled collection, so up cycling and sustainability is the direction I am moving in. I have a pop up coming up in July and there will be new additions to my collection, so keep your eyes peeled for that. 

 

11) What would you like your Legacy to be?

I want to disrupt how fashion is produced and how we consume it but I also want to move beyond fashion and create opportunities for others in my community.
