Welcome back to another #NewMusicFriday! This week we caught up with the mega talented musical duo Star.One ahead of their release for the summer banger 'Won't Hold Back'!

We kicked it with the bros in our studio and they gave us some insight into how the pandemic influenced their creative process, talked about how technology has changed the music industry and whats next for the london's legendary duo!

Who is Star.One?

Star.One is the musical project of my brother and I - we’ve been making music together for nearly a decade now which is crazy!

What is the Star.One project?

The Star.One project encompasses the music we grew up on and putting that in a blender. Garage, grime, dancehall and drum n bass mainly. We’ve been lucky enough to work with some of our favourite MCs and artists over the years.

Recently though we’ve found ourselves making more garage inspired dance music. Going to Ibiza in 2019 and feeling the energy in the Mecca of dance music has really inspired the tracks we have got coming out this year.

How did the pandemic influenced you creative process. Tell us about your journey true the lockdowns?

The lockdown definitely saw a change in working processes - we were more isolated, we only linked up in person a handful of times and have definitely missed having studio sessions.

It was good to be able to focus though, hone in our sound and make sure we’re ready with music for when lockdown is over - and that’s why we’re gassed to release Won’t Hold back now.

Definitely went through different stages throughout the year - there were some really high levels of productivity and focus alongside some points especially in the 2nd lockdown of a real lack of creativity. Our music took a darker turn in the wake of the George Floyd killing but ultimately we wanted to spread some feel good joy in our tracks. But sometimes when you’re not in that mood yourself it’s hard to create it.

How do you think that technology and progression influenced the current music industry?

The music industry is changing at such a rapid rate it can be hard for some artists to keep up sometimes when all you wanna do is make music. Everything is so reliant on Spotify algorithms and streaming atm - it’s a strange way to look at music but the game is the game.

I like to think of new ways to market ourselves and so have been heavily drawn to TikTok over the last year - it’s now where we have our biggest social media following. I advise any artist to get on there as it’s such a fun and creative app and your music can spread easily on there. If you look at any breaking artist in the charts today the common thread is usually TikTok virality - it’s so powerful.

What's next for Star.One?

Firstly we really wanna push Won't Hold Back to it's full potential. I feel it's a track that can really elevate us. We've got alot more music coming as well. The lockdown has enabled us to slow down and really plan a full release schedule so more on the way.
