New Music Friday: Blinkie
Ready for the weekend!? We've got you with our next #NewMusicFriday feature. This week we caught up with London based producer, DJ & founder of PXL Records, Blinkie who is giving you some you some new heat today with his remixes of popular hits!
We hung out and got to know more about his creative process, how it was working on the new Bugzy Malone album and the new Youtube channel, 'Note To Self'!
- Who is Blinkie?
Blinkie is a producer, artist DJ & co - founder of PXL Records but more than anything I am human.
2. You've dropped some fire remixes recently! Please tell us more about them?
I’ve dropped 4 so far this year, Cheat Code - Stay (Blinkie remix) Bless You - Head underwater (Blinkie Remix), House Gospel choir - Everything is love (Blinkie remix) and one of my favourites Little Mix - Confetti feat. Saweetie (Blinkie Remix).
I say the Little Mix one is a favourite because I am a big fan of Little Mix, plus it’s the first remix that has got into the top 20 iTunes chart which is amazing.
3. What has your creative process over the last couple of years been like? We are aware that you struggled with some mental health issues in the past, tell us how you overcame them?
My creative process has evolved over the years, I pour myself and my life experiences into making the music, whether that’s on my own, or working with other artists, what’s most important to me is that we are all creating music that’s going to bring the best out in all of us, and it’s as simple as having conversations about what each person wants to create and then bringing it all together to create something special. Music has been a big part of me overcoming the hard experiences in life I have faced, it’s given me a focus and being able to create music that helps other people overcome hard times and feel joy, which brings me happiness too.
4. You produced a lot of Bugzy Malone’s ‘The Resurrection’ album, how was that experience?
It was a great learning experience. This is a major milestone in my career as a producer and some massive achievements come from it too, I had my first top 20 and top 40 records and a top 10 album, it’s been an amazing experience so far.
I find it crazy that all of this sparked from me posting a beat on my Instagram because I was frustrated with the whole lock down situation last year, that beat became my first top 20 song, then as result of that I ended up working on the whole album. For me, it just goes to show that everything happens for a reason, I was posting beats, connecting with my followers, and then everything just happened and I’m truly grateful for everything.
Word of advice to up and coming producers & artists: Put out as much music as you can in anyway that you can, you never know who’s watching and listening, always trust the timing of your life.
5. Tell us what's next for Blinkie?
I’ve got quite a lot going on at the moment and new releases coming up.
I’ve got new music on the way from myself and two artists signed to my label PXL, WhoisOrion & James Bluck. I’ve also started a new series on my YouTube channel called ‘Note to self’, which will be released soon.
The series is to help others recognise themselves as a whole perfectly imperfect human who experiences life in different ways, the content that’s going to be shared will be from life experiences from people from all walks of life sharing their stories and also to build connections and create a community.
6. Where can we find more of your work?
For music you can find everything on Spotify, iTunes and all other digital streaming platforms.
