New Music Friday: LEVi

We're back with another #NewMusicFriday! We linked up with the MC, singer-songwriter on the London scene, LEVi. Not one to put down the pen, LEVi is a compulsive songwriter. He's just brought the heat with his sultry, inescapable flow on his new single 'What You Want'. The track is produced by Yvng Face, who worked with LEVi on his previous two singles, ‘Strongback’ and ‘Touch Di Road’. The track serves as the next taste of his forthcoming Daaanger mixtape.

We caught up at the Stööki studio in London to learn more about LEVi, including his inspirations and future projects... 👀

1. Who is LEVi?

My name is LEVi, I'm a recording artist.

2. Tell us about the inspiration behind your track ‘Strongback’?

I wrote this song just as it was getting cold outside. This song is about hustling but still being drawn towards or spending time with that special person. London is fast paced, but that person or people you care about can help almost slow down reality to where you can live in the now

 

3.  Describe your creative process as an artist?

My creative process varies. When I'm in the studio and the vibes are running I might not write my lyrics in order to get the most out of the moment, I'll write them in my head instead and record like that. Some other times when the vibes are more chill I'll help build the beat with my producer and then think of a concept that matches it then write to it. It just depends on the day.

4. How would you describe your sound?

My sound is UK black music with a strong Jamaican influence vocally. I rap better than I sing but I have a knack of finding catchy melodies that compliment the beat so I like to sing a lot hence the Jamaica influence.


5.  What are some of your fashion and style influences?

My first inspiration fashion wise definitely stems from Jamaican soundsystem and dancehall culture. That along with Rastafari culture all embrace proud authenticity but with a pristine and sharp look which I think is my vibe. Growing up I also saw my Uncles and older cousins go garage raving in the 90s and early 2000s, I saw them looking the part with the moschino and the gucci leather loafers etc so that along with MTV influenced my taste in fashion. Dancehall Rap and Garage.

6.Which music artists inspire you?

Jay, Ye, Drake, Vybz Kartel, Chronixx, Stevie Wonder

7.What’s next for LEVi?

A LEVi and Drake collab
