New Music Friday: Emily Nash

We're back with our first #NewMusicFriday of 2022! We linked up 21 year old  Emily Nash! A rare gem in the electronic world, she’s a young female DJ and producer who has already remixed for Little Mix and Navos; her own debut singles have racked up plays on BBC Radio 1, Capital and Kiss and led to her being included on both Beatport and Amazon’s prestigious “Ones To Watch” features for 2022. She’s only performed at a handful of gigs but those she has done include Leeds Festival, Creamfields and the iconic Printworks in London.

We caught up at the Stööki studio in London to learn more about Emily Nash's inspirations, latest single 'Garden' and her upcoming projects...  👀

1. Who is Emily Nash?

I’m Emily Nash, I'm 21 Music Producer and DJ, i first started getting into music when i didn't manage to get my Maths GCSEs in school. So I was then left with nothing to do. I went down to my local college and they asked me what I like to do, so I said I like music. Ever since then they put me in a music production class and I've loved it ever since. Sort of an accident but it ended well.

2. What inspires you musically?

A big one for me is MK I've always followed his journey since I was growing up and whenever it was summer we'd be blasting out his tunes in the garden and I'm another big fan of Gorgon City I just like their sort of symphony bass that they use and I sort of got a similar sound on my bass to them. Another inspiration would be Duke Dumont i just like his sound as well just lovely summer vibes and uplifting.

3. Speaking of the legendary MK we hear you have some exciting news to share with us?

Yes, so one of my dream gigs is Warehouse Project Manchester and I'm playing with him in two weeks on the 8th of April so I'm really looking forward to that. I've always wanted to play there so to play there and be with him as well i think it would be amazing.

4. Tell us what's next for you?

So I just released Garden with Ministry of Sound and that's been doing really well. It's just smashed a million streams and then I've got a new tune coming out in summer time. It's more like a Dance song whereas Garden was Tech House. So I'm excited for everyone to hear that and some of the summer bangers I guess.

5. What was the inspiration behind your track 'Garden'?

When I first made Garden I was on a sample vocal and it was a really haunting women's vocal and I said this will be really cool for a track. So I added it into my project In Logic Pro and I built the drums and added the synths to it and it all just came together really fast. I find the tracks you make the quickest are always the best tracks. It took in total about 2 hours to make.

6. Are there any artists you would love to collaborate with in the future?

I think MK being a big inspiration i would love to work with him, but I'm also a massive fan of Becky Hill I just think her vocals are great on dance tracks and she was born like 10 minutes away from where I live so I think it would be cool to just have a little collab with her I love all of her tunes so hopefully that will happen at some point.

7. What advice would you give to up and coming producers and artists?

I think just don't think too hard. There might be different labels you want to release on and sometimes they'll be times where you don't hear back from a label for a few months so don't lose hope. Another thing is when learning music production a good place to look is YouTube, Because when I left college if there were bits I didn't know I would go onto YouTube and search it and I would find everything I needed to know.

Yeah just make music you like and if you want to do it you got to keep aiming for it and just don't give up.

8. Where can people find more of your work?

I'm on Spotify, YouTube, every streaming platform. Apple Music there's a few behind the scenes and get to know Emily Nash videos on my YouTube and Facebook.  It's all on the internet really.
